Music Business News - Stay Informed!

Image of eye through rolled up newspaper.

You want to read music business news to keep up to date with events and buzz in the music business world and markets.

You will make better decisions for your own music business with a good knowledge of music industry companies, services, trends and events.

You'll discover however that there is more than a lot of music business news going around, not to mention news about other areas you want to keep up to date with.

You want cut through the clutter and filter your news stream to enable you to focus only on what's relevant to your own music business.

So, I suggest you keep it simple with the help of the two tools and one tip below...

1) Use an RSS Reader...

You probably know what RSS is by now and you most likely use it already. You should.

An RSS reader allows you to read RSS feeds published by content producers such as bloggers and web sites. You basically select the feeds you want and then read all the headlines in your reader.

You therefore do not have to visit each music industry news web site or blog to get the news. You can see how this saves you a lot of time!

You'll find a good explanation of RSS when you click the question mark (?) in the top left-hand corner of this page.

You can either download a reader to your computer or use online readers such as MyYahoo, Google and MyMSN.

You will, for example, when you subscribe to my RSS feed, see a new headline in your RSS reader when I add a page or post to this web site.

You can subscribe to most Blogs via RSS and you can find good music business news Blogs via the Search Engines or in Blog directories such as Technorati, which also offers a handy search tool for Blogs.

2) Use Google Alerts...

Google Alerts allows you to receive news and web site content as it is added to the web.

You simply enter your e-mail address and the keywords you want to receive alerts for and then select how often you wish to receive the alerts.

You can also set up a "vanity alert" when you enter your own name or your artist name. You can do this to see what people are saying about you and your music.

You can set up Google Alerts to suit your music and business here.

3) Be Selective...

Scan headlines and only read what's really relevant to your own music business and career. You want to avoid surfing because you can easily waste time better spent on your core business activities.

You want to try strike a good balance between news about your particular market sector, genre or niche and the overall big-picture music business news which will affect your music business.

I trust the above tools will help you stay informed.

What others have to say...

"Thank you for your help with our web strategy and social media presence. The integrated setup of the web site and our social profiles you helped us establish makes life so much easier. The buzz so far has been great and just keeps growing!" - Gareth, The Commercial Hippies / Nano Records thecommercialhippies.com

"As the owner of a music studio, I have found this site to be extremely beneficial to musicians at any stage of development. Way to go, Marius!" - Lynne, may-studio-music-lessons.com

"Marius has a very informative site on how to be a self-managing musician, and he takes the time to get back to you if you've got questions. He's a cool guy!" - Nate Maingard, Musician twitter.com/NateMaingard

"It refreshing in so many ways to find something that's the truth and not just some "sign here pay this and tomorrow you're famous" website!! Marius has lent direction in gray areas for The Brokekings and certainly its been the most honest approach in getting our brand from our hard-drive to our tribe's ears." - Cliff Barns, The Brokekings http://thebrokekings.bandcamp.com

"Yes, your site is great. I devoured all of it, watched all the Vids because you cover all the important current marketing strategies a band/artist should be doing. I totally agree with your angle on things, especially the way the old music biz paradigm is crumbling away and there are new ways for all of us Artists to empower ourselves." Paul Abrahams, The Reels
