Your Music Business Career -
Are You a Tortoise or a Hare?

The success and longevity of your music business career depends on your attitude.

You probably know the story of the tortoise and the hare who race. The tortoise wins the race with slow, steady and sure progress.

You can act like a hare a sprint this way and that way chasing fame and riches or you can act like a tortoise and take the route of slow steady business growth.

How to act
like a Hare...
How to act
like a Tortoise...
- Avoid music practise.

- Avoid the "business side of music".

- Chase a record deal.

- Expect others to do the work.

- Be an opportunist.

- Think next week, or next month.

- Do it for the fast money, fame and "lifestyle".

- Practise your art at every opportunity.

- Study and understand the business aspect of music.

- Remain independent. Ignore record deals until you at least have a strong following.

- Do what you can yourself. Delegate and outsource the rest.

- Be a strategist.

- Think next week, next month, next year, next 5 years, next 20 years.

- Do it for the music, your tribe and your own growth and pleasure.

You'd be better off when you avoid any company or person who promises you quick riches or fame. It's always a sham.

You rather want to research and create a solid long-term music business plan to stick to.

Remember, a song is not about getting to the last note or final cymbal crash. It's about the journey.

Make every move and moment count and always keep moving towards your desired business goals. Remain persistent and determined.

I'll leave you with these words for your music business career ...

--------------------------------------------------------

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful
people with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

- Calvin Coolidge

What others have to say...

"Thank you for your help with our web strategy and social media presence. The integrated setup of the web site and our social profiles you helped us establish makes life so much easier. The buzz so far has been great and just keeps growing!" - Gareth, The Commercial Hippies / Nano Records thecommercialhippies.com

"As the owner of a music studio, I have found this site to be extremely beneficial to musicians at any stage of development. Way to go, Marius!" - Lynne, may-studio-music-lessons.com

"Marius has a very informative site on how to be a self-managing musician, and he takes the time to get back to you if you've got questions. He's a cool guy!" - Nate Maingard, Musician twitter.com/NateMaingard

"It refreshing in so many ways to find something that's the truth and not just some "sign here pay this and tomorrow you're famous" website!! Marius has lent direction in gray areas for The Brokekings and certainly its been the most honest approach in getting our brand from our hard-drive to our tribe's ears." - Cliff Barns, The Brokekings http://thebrokekings.bandcamp.com

"Yes, your site is great. I devoured all of it, watched all the Vids because you cover all the important current marketing strategies a band/artist should be doing. I totally agree with your angle on things, especially the way the old music biz paradigm is crumbling away and there are new ways for all of us Artists to empower ourselves." Paul Abrahams, The Reels
