You probably know by now that the loss of DAW projects or audio files can reduce even the most seasoned pro to the point of tears. Data loss just plain sucks. Now, the only cure when it comes to losing data is obviously prevention. So, most studio owners back up to external hard-drives and this is all good apart from the fact that... ... hard drives can fail and are vulnerable to physical damage. Once data is lost from a hard-drive giving up the ghost it's pretty much gone. Zap! Ouch! Plus, backing up to hard drives manually takes discipline and is so boring compared to working on a production. So, I've been looking out for a file transfer and backup solution tailored for musicians and studio owners. I couldn't find any. Until now...

I've just opened an account and will let you know how I find working with in in the long run once I've had some time to test it properly. A promising new product has just come up on my radar. What is it? A new magic sound box from the company Dark Matter Audio named the DMA1. They call it a Smart Audio Hub and it can be used as a... ... multi-track recorder.
... effects processor.
... drum machine.
... sampler.
... looper.
... and more! It will also allow you to download apps like you would with a phone and also has open architecture. Check out the introduction video for more info... It's not available yet and I couldn't see a price on the company web site so for now we'll just have to wait in anticipation. ;-)
