Tools which allow you to make your own music online, oh yeah!

Online Music Production Image

Ever wonder where you can make your own music online with hosted tools?

Wonder no more! You'll discover sites which allow online music creation and collaboration further down this page.

I remember a daydream I had in music tech class way back in 1999...

We were discussing the Internet in the studio and suddenly I imagined how the web could allow musicians and producers to collaborate.

I figured since the engineer and producer and musicians are typically in different rooms during takes it would make sense that they could do the job, with the right technology, in different places on the planet.

It's happening!

Now, as you can probably imagine, these tools don't yet match up to the standard music making software used by professional music artists and producers. You'll be able to create much better music in your home studio with a copy of Cubase, Logic or Pro-Tools than you will with these online music creation tools.

In fact, many of the online music creation tools available look like toys compared to their offline ancestors.

That said, it's great to know development is being made in the area of online music creation and collaboration.

You'll find a few sites which offer you online music creation and collaboration tools below...

  • To play around with for fun (and a bit of ear training) check out JamStudio.com.

  • For a more serious online audio editor and collaboration tools which comes with a built in community I suggest you check out Indaba music.

  • You'll find more tools for online music creation over at SoundJunction.org which offers online composer software and various other music making tools, resources and information.

  • To play with other musicians and collaborate in realtime I suggest you check out eJamming Audiio.

  • The Digital Musician Recorder allows you to record by yourself or together with other musicians. Visit Digitalmusician.net to find out more about the DM Recorder.

Do you know of any other great tools to make your own music online?

Please let me know via the contact form so I can add them to the web site for future readers of this page.

All the best,
Marius van Dyk

What others have to say...

"Thank you for your help with our web strategy and social media presence. The integrated setup of the web site and our social profiles you helped us establish makes life so much easier. The buzz so far has been great and just keeps growing!" - Gareth, The Commercial Hippies / Nano Records thecommercialhippies.com

"As the owner of a music studio, I have found this site to be extremely beneficial to musicians at any stage of development. Way to go, Marius!" - Lynne, may-studio-music-lessons.com

"Marius has a very informative site on how to be a self-managing musician, and he takes the time to get back to you if you've got questions. He's a cool guy!" - Nate Maingard, Musician twitter.com/NateMaingard

"It refreshing in so many ways to find something that's the truth and not just some "sign here pay this and tomorrow you're famous" website!! Marius has lent direction in gray areas for The Brokekings and certainly its been the most honest approach in getting our brand from our hard-drive to our tribe's ears." - Cliff Barns, The Brokekings http://thebrokekings.bandcamp.com

"Yes, your site is great. I devoured all of it, watched all the Vids because you cover all the important current marketing strategies a band/artist should be doing. I totally agree with your angle on things, especially the way the old music biz paradigm is crumbling away and there are new ways for all of us Artists to empower ourselves." Paul Abrahams, The Reels
