Disclosure: Sponshorship/Affiliate Q & A

Disclosure: You can read the content on this website for free. I do however accept compensation from selected sponsors when you purchase certain products.

I answer the main questions you may have about my relationship to sponsors on this page below.

Why do you offer free content on this website?

I write and publish articles to help independent music artists and producers create sustainable music business careers. I don't ask for payment for my writing because I want to get it out to as many producers and musicians as possible.

Does it cost you anything to run this web site?

Yes, I pay for the site hosting and development. I also spend a lot of time and energy on this website because I research, write, edit and publish most of the content myself.

How do you pay for the site if you don't charge for the content?

This site is my personal site. It accepts advertising and receives other forms of compensation from best-of-breed companies with whom I affiliate.

"Ads by Google" are not selected by me, so if you see a Google ad and a Web page about the same product or service, it is a coincidence.

Not all the links on this site are affiliate links. I point out my affiliate links to you in the spirit of full disclosure so you'll always know when a link is an affiliate link.

I also accept donations direct from my visitors who wish to donate to help me with my mission.

How does the payment you receive affect the content you create?

It doesn't.

The purpose of my writing is to help independent music producers and musicians get ahead in the new music business and to connect with these same people.

I always give my honest opinion, feelings and comments about products and services and only recommend products I believe in.

My reputation is important to me because my business depends on how much people trust me. I will not risk losing your trust in return for short-term gains. My goodwill cannot be bought.

Why should I use your affiliate links?

I do my best to create a Win-Win-Win situation for you, me and the companies or individuals with whom I affiliate.

I request that you support the companies and services I recommend because...

  • You get a good product or service which can help you with your music business and career.
  • I get a small commission which helps me maintain and grow this website for independent music artists like you.
  • The company gets a sale which helps them continue to provide the goods or services they offer independent artists.

Using the affiliate links on this site doesn't cost you extra because the price remains the same for you. It only means that the company distributes part of the profit they would've made to me, for referring you to the product.

I thank you in advance for your support should you decide to purchase through my affiliate links.

Feel free to contact me should you have further questions.

All the best,
Marius van Dyk

"Marius has a very informative site on how to be a self-managing musician, and he takes the time to get back to you if you've got questions. He's a cool guy!" - Nate Maingard, Musician twitter.com/NateMaingard

"It refreshing in so many ways to find something that's the truth and not just some "sign here pay this and tomorrow you're famous" website!! Marius has lent direction in gray areas for The Brokekings and certainly its been the most honest approach in getting our brand from our hard-drive to our tribe's ears." - Cliff Barns, The Brokekings http://thebrokekings.bandcamp.com

"Yes, your site is great. I devoured all of it, watched all the Vids because you cover all the important current marketing strategies a band/artist should be doing. I totally agree with your angle on things, especially the way the old music biz paradigm is crumbling away and there are new ways for all of us Artists to empower ourselves." Paul Abrahams, The Reels
